Getting started
How do I add my own sounds?
Open a board, tap + and choose Import from Files. Pick one or more MP3, WAV or M4A files. Each file becomes a new pad. SamplePad keeps its own copy, so the pad still plays if you move or rename the original.
What is the Demo board?
On first launch, SamplePad adds a Demo board with ten free (CC0) sounds: ambient pads, swells, a riser, a reverse cymbal and a count-in. Use it to try things out, then delete it or keep it.
During the service
How do I stop everything at once?
Tap Stop All. It’s always on screen: at the bottom on iPhone and in the toolbar on iPad and Mac. With a keyboard, press Esc.
Why does a loop keep playing after I turn loop off?
That’s on purpose. Turning loop off lets the pad finish the pass it’s playing, so it doesn’t cut off mid-phrase. To stop it right away, tap the pad again or use Stop All.
Will sounds stop if I switch apps or lock the screen?
No. Background playback is on by default. You can turn it off in Settings > Background playback. Phone calls and other interruptions pause playback, as with any audio app.
There’s a delay or crackle when I play pads.
Close other audio apps, turn off Bluetooth headphones or speakers if you can (they add latency), and use WAV or M4A files instead of very long MP3s.
A pad shows a “missing file” badge.
Its audio file couldn’t be found, for example after restoring from a backup. Open the pad editor and choose Replace file to relink it.
